Congratulations on your new role as a Health Director! This guidebook is intended to support you whether you are a brand new Health Director just beginning in your position or an experienced Health Director taking on new responsibilities.
There are approximately 150 Health Director Members of the First Nations Health Directors Association (FNHDA) in British Columbia who have walked the same path as you and understand how challenging it can be to get oriented when stepping into this role. You will see their words of wisdom threaded throughout the guidebook which has been developed at their request and with their participation.
Be sure to reach out to your fellow Health Directors for support. They have been in your shoes and are often willing to walk alongside you and lend a helping hand. Regional caucus meetings, FNHDA gatherings, and FNHA provincial events are good places to connect with your Health Director peers and meet others who can carry you in your journey.

The FNHDA is a valuable resource for First Nations Health Directors.
As a registered FNHDA Member, you have access to educational materials and a network of support that can help you work your way through new and challenging situations that form part of your responsibilities as a Health Director.
Should you require any assistance in your role, do not hesitate to reach out to the FNHDA Team to learn more about the resources available to you and to make connections with other Health Directors either through the FNHDA peer support mentorship program (Mentor City) or by way of an introduction to other Health Directors in your region.
If you are a BC First Nations Health Director but are not yet an FNHDA Member and would like to join the association, please contact the FNHDA Team to register.
